Brockmoor Primary School

Reading and Phonics Scheme

What better way to launch our brand-new reading and phonics scheme, than to launch it on the day that the UK spend celebrating the amazing life and works of Roald Dahl. What did the man himself have to say about reading:

“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful.”
- Roald Dahl

We are working towards every child at Brockmoor becoming an accomplished reader by the time they leave us in year 6.

During the week we will be sharing with you all the wonderful new projects and reading systems we have put in place as a school and will be sending your children home on Friday with a small token to demonstrate how important reading is.

Keep an eye out for future posts and information coming your way.

We are launching our new Read Write Inc. Phonics scheme to the children this week.

Want to find out more then watch this short video:

You can also watch video tutorials on to help you to understand more about Read Write Inc. and how to help your child read and write at home. Some of you will be invited in to learn more and work with your children. Everyone will receive a letter from Miss Dudley on Friday that sums up everything that you need to know about supporting your children at home with our phonics scheme and how we teach it in schools. Today we are asking:

How can I support my child’s reading and writing?

Here are the top five things you can do:

  1. Ask your child to read the Speed Sound cards speedily.

  1. Use Fred Talk to help your child read and spell words (further information to follow on how to do this).

  1. Listen to your child read their Read Write Inc. Storybook every day.

  1. Practice reading Green and Red Words in the Storybook speedily.

  1. Read stories to your child every day.
