Life Cycles

Over the next 3 weeks Reception will be looking closely at animal life cycles. Early next week (26.4.21) we will be having a special delivery to school! Don't forget to ask your child to tell you all about it!

We will be sequencing life cycles, writing simple captions to go alongside these captions and identifying the change in animals as they move through their life cycle. Below are some different activity ideas for you to try with your child linked to our in school learning. Keep an eye on the website as we will update this page with some of our work as we complete it.

Have a go at following the instructions to create your own butterfly! We can't wait to see them.

Lets innovate!

In school we have recently begun to explore the process of innovation linked to stories. In Reception, the innovation of stories starts of very simply, with the change of main character or main event. Maybe you could have a go at innovating the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

Maybe you could change the character in the story?

'The Very Hungry Tadpole' or 'The Very Hungry Chick'.

Instead of changing the character maybe you could change the foods that are eaten? Maybe it could be different fruits, 1 kiwi, 2 melons, 3 bananas, 4 pineapples...

You could try and tell your story to a family member. Once you have practised this ask a grown up to film you and upload your innovated story to Tapestry.
